
Minister of Labour, Hon. James Hoth Mai led the South Sudan delegation to attend the 110th Session of International Labour Organization’s (ILO) conference in Geneva. Capacity building, creation of employment opportunities, and managing immigration workers in South Sudan ware the top priorities presented during the conference. Minister of Labour Hon. James Hoth reiterates government commitment in the implementation of the ratified conventions and the spirit of tripartite working environment.
South Sudan delegation during the conference discussed decent work, social and solidarity economy, and the strategic objective of employment as part of the follow-up mechanism of the ILO declaration on social justice for a fair globalization.
The 110th Session of the ILO conference was highly represented in the tripartite manner. On the other hand, ILO administration assured South Sudan that they will continue to render support to South Sudan in the areas of vocational training and to implement the Labour Act effectively. This year conference was programed to amend ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, 1998, to include safe and healthy working conditions at the work place as stated in Chapter eleven of South Sudan Labour Act 2017.
“The rule of law must prevail, those who resort to war deny social justice,” declared ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder during the opening session of the 110th International Labour Conference.
