Strengthening South Sudan–Egypt Labour Cooperation

The Minister of Labour of the Republic of South Sudan, Hon. Anthony Lino Makana, met in Cairo with Dr. Hassan Redad, Minister of Manpower of the Arab Republic of Egypt to advance bilateral cooperation in labour, vocational training, and human capacity development.
Egypt expressed readiness to share technical expertise through train-the-trainers programmes to build sustainable local capacity and strengthen South Sudan’s technical training institutions. Discussions also covered continued support for the South Sudanese community in Egypt, including facilitation of work permits and improved access to employment opportunities.
Both Ministers agreed to pursue a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on vocational training to formalize cooperation and ensure structured implementation, with strong emphasis on occupational safety and health standards—particularly in the oil and petroleum sectors—to promote safer workplaces and compliance with international labour standards.
